The stages of an energy transition that have to come first are the ones the national record does not count

The ten-year Treasury yield rose from 0.89 percent in 2020 to 4.29 in 2025 while crude ran from 39 dollars a barrel to 95 and back to 65, so both terms of a transition's first calculation moved in every year the plant was going up. The record that counts plant and vehicles closely does not count generation, transmission or interconnection at all.

  • PerspectivaEconomic Security

Commodity dependence is an exposure in the budget, and the conversion that ends it runs slower than the price cycle

Texas raises more severance tax than any other state, 8.00 billion dollars, and that is 8.9 percent of what Texas collects; the same tax is 47.2 percent of North Dakota's. The exposure therefore sits in the size of the rest of the base, and the spending that would widen one moves slowly: factory construction rose for four years, then fell.

What refining capacity is, and why it is the bottleneck

Refining is the step between a raw material and a usable one. By the end you will know why it is harder to replace than a mine, why it clusters in a few places, and what a country that cannot refine actually lacks.

  • ComentárioRegional Development

Four states now fund themselves on a price they do not set

Severance is 47.2 percent of North Dakota's state tax collections and 43.9 percent of Alaska's. That is not a revenue line. It is a position in a commodity, held by a government that has to write a budget every year.

  • ConstataçãoEnergy & Power

Crude has fallen back below its 2021 price and the all-commodities index has not

West Texas Intermediate averaged 95 dollars a barrel in 2022 and 65 in 2025, three dollars below its 2021 reading and thirty below the peak. The producer price index for all commodities peaked in the same year, sits 1.6 per cent below that peak, and rose 2.2 per cent in the year crude fell 15.6 per cent.

  • ComentárioEnergy & Power

Interconnection queues are a pricing failure, and faster studies will not clear them

The charge a project faces for connecting to the grid cannot be known when the decision to build is made, because it depends on which other applications are studied first, and a charge settled that way is a draw rather than a price. No series in this brief measures a queue, so the case rests on mechanism and on what the priced parts of the system already show.

What upstream and downstream mean in an energy supply chain

The words split an industry into three stages with different economics, different regulators and different failure modes. By the end you will know where each boundary falls and why the stage a policy attaches to decides who pays for it.

Every infrastructure plan assumes a maintenance workforce it never budgets

Adding up the 51 state estimates gives 6,086,200 people in installation, maintenance and repair. In 50 of those 51 jurisdictions they are paid above the state median wage. A capital programme that treats them as someone else's problem is buying an asset it has not costed to run.
