Checking whether you can apply…

If you apply to write for The Cefa Brief

What we collect. You need a platform account to apply, so CEFA already holds the name and sign-in address on it. The form asks for the name you would write under, your position and organisation, the topics and places you write about, links to two or three examples of your published work, up to three links to your accounts elsewhere, a proposed tagline and biography, your answers to the declaration of interests and the name you type to sign it, the consents you give for your profile, and anything else you want the editors to know.

While you fill the form in, your answers are kept in your own browser so you do not lose them. They are cleared when you submit.

Why we collect it. To decide your application and to write to you about it. If we decline it, we keep a record of the decision, because you can ask for it to be reviewed and you can apply again after 90 days.

Who sees it. The Editor-in-chief decides your application and the editors can see that it is waiting. Platform administrators can see your name, address, organisation and position in the platform’s request queue; your answers are held back from that queue. Nothing in it is sold, and nothing is shared outside CEFA to decide it. Our email provider handles the messages we send you.

How long we keep it. If you are approved, your application becomes part of your author record. If you are declined, the answers are kept while the decision can still be reviewed. Deletion is carried out on request; automatic deletion begins when our systems support it.

Your rights. You can download the record The Cefa Brief holds about you, at any time, from your desk. You can ask for anything wrong in it to be corrected, and you can ask for erasure — read first what erasure can and cannot do, because parts of the record cannot be deleted.
